Briatore wins battle against FIA

It was in May 2009 when FIA announced that a life ban from all motorsports events and activities will apply to Flavio Briatore as a result of the investigation that FIA held, after accusations from Nelson Pique Jr that Briatore was the mastermind in the famous ‘crashgate’ scandal. This incident happened in the race held in Singapore back in 2008. However, Briatore took the battle to the French court of law which ruled out that FIA do not have the power to force such a ban to Flavio Briatore even if Briatore was actually found guilty. Therefore, the French court gave 2 weeks notice to FIA to inform the teams regarding the removal of Briatore’s ban or a 10000 euro penalty fine would apply for each day they delayed to take action in removing the ban. The French court decision also applies to Pat Symonds who received a similar penalty as Briatore but only for a duration of 5 years.
What is left is to see is if Briatore will actually return to Formula 1 or not. It is noteworthy that Renault had immediately stopped cooperation with the two above mentioned drivers, as soon as FIA started an investigation in regards to this matter. FIA has responded that will appeal the judgment as both men are still guilty for race fixing.
