The cyberattacks in Google and other internet companies are part of a broader, “shadow” campaign in cyberspace from China and a list of other countries. “China is not the only country which could be served in one such intelligence, but certainly there is intense activity in the region for obvious reasons,” as explained by James Lewis, an expert on cybersecurity issues, for the Center for Strategic and International Studies. “Additionally to the recent attack it is a fact that the same goes for economic espionage, of which the greatest activity comes from China again … Recent hacker attacks on Google and more than thirty companies summarize all complaints concerning breach of copyright and piracy.” adds Mr Lewis.
According to the Virtual Criminology Report of Internet security company McAfee; China, France, Israel, Russia and the U.S. are among countries that have a significant, aggressive cyber activity; “China tops the list, and focuses on online spying and infiltration of networks” says the CEO of McAfee emphasizing that McAfee does not have proof that the Chinese government is behind the attacks received by Google but has strong indications that the government authorities are behind the attacks.
The goverments silent approach towards this major issue and the passive approach taken by Beijing are yes very worrying as tactics of the sort do poison the worldwide technological development which will have China suffering in the long term if similar practices are carried out in the future.
