A sharp slowdown has been presented in the growth of the major European economies in the last months of 2009, as shown by the latest statistics related to the dynamism of the region which was what helped remove the region from recession in the first place. Growth in Europe’s biggest economy, Germany, was zero in the fourth quarter of 2009, while data for manufacturing in Britain and Italy in November confirm concerns about the strength of the recovery. “The third quarter was impressive, but not the fourth as development has been largely limited. This is true for Germany, France, Italy and the Eurozone as a whole, “as noted by economist of Deutsche Bank.Even worse, the Statistical Office of Germany announced that, as preliminary data suggest the economy shrank 5% throughout 2009, knowing the worst recession since the 1930s, since exports fell 14.7% and business investment 20%.
The German economy has developed at a rate of 1.3% in 2008 and the central bank states that it may develop again this year by 1.6%. The official GDP figures, but the fourth quarter and throughout 2009 announced on 12 February. Meanwhile, industrial production in Italy was strengthened just 0.2% in November, less than expected, while in Britain the figures were not at all encouraging. As for the British economy, the Statistical Office estimates that the country shrank 4.8% in 2009. In France, consumer prices rose by more than expected in December, sparking concern that inflation could hit household expenditure in the coming months in the second largest economy in the Eurozone.
