Formula 1 – Campos secures new deal while USF1 still struggles

Completely opposite routes for the two new teams in Formula 1. Although both Campos Meta and USF1 have major financial problems, Campos has made a few steps forward in order to be ready to participate on the first Grand Prix of the season in Bahrain at March 14th. Carabante has taken full control of the team after acquiring the percentage Campos previously holded. He immediately appointed Colin Kolles as team principal and there are rumors that most probably the team will change its name as well. However, the team will continue evolving the Dallara chassis and they will continue to use the facilities in Spain. Bruno Senna will keep his position as first team driver but there are rumors that Lopez might join the team in the near future – Lopez is currently employed by USF1 – in order to complete the drivers’ line-up. There is also a slim possibility that YouTube might be sponsoring the new Campos team if the USF1 project collapses.

However, there is a lot more to be done if the Campos team wants to be present in the first race at Bahrain as the team needs additional funding something already confirmed by the words of Kolles – plus they need to be present in the last official testing days. On the other hand, USF1 marches towards shut down as they are unable to secure the necessary funding for the participation in Formula 1. After a couple of weeks of absolute silence and postponed press conferences, USF1 boss ken Anderson has admitted that he issued an official request to FIA so the team to be allowed to miss four races.

It is worth mentioning that the Concord Agreement allows the teams to miss three races of a season without any penalties. Now, the action to ask for a further extension of this rule seems that they want to abandon the project with minimum loss as it is almost certain that their request will be turned down. Sources within the team stated that there is a major financial problem as the USF1 is lacking the ability to fully pay the staff wages. As stated above, the team’s main driver Lopez may sign for Campos – something that was not denied by the USF1 boss. However, he denied that main sponsor of the team – YouTube – has pull the plugged.

Now than ever, it is certain, that the Serbian outfit team Stephan GP is waiting for the official announcement from FIA that they are granted entry to the Formula 1 2010 championship. Stephan GP is still developing the Toyota’s 2009 chassis and rumors say that within the week, ex-Formula 1 championship of 1997 Jacques Villeneuve will test their car.
