Formula 1 Bahrain GP – Vettel with Red Bull the First Pole Position of the 2010 F1 season

The qualifying session of the Bahrain Grand Prix just concluded without any major surprises as the leading teams managed to secure a position in the first 5 rows occupying the spots from 1 to 10. Sebastian Vettel managed to secure the first pole position with a time of 1.54.101 followed by the two Ferrari’s of Massa (1.54.242) and Alonso (1.54.608). Lewis Hamilton in his McLaren was fourth while Nico Rosberg with Mercedes was fifth. The other Red Bull driver Mark Webber was sixth followed by Michael Schumacher in the second Mercedes and Jenson Button in the second McLaren. Robert Kubica performed great with his Renault and secured ninth position while Adrian Sutil after an outstanding performance managed to secure the tenth spot.
The first qualifying session ended as it was predicted, with the six cars of the new three teams being in the last places and disqualified from the next qualifying session. The seventh car which also didn’t manage to produce a fast time was Alguersuari with a Toro Rosso as he suffered a long drift in his last fast lap effort.
The end of the second qualifying session found Barrichello, Liuzzi, Hulkenberg, De la Rosa, Buemi, Kobayashi and Petrov to be unable to secure times that will give them the chance for a pole position fight and therefore were not able to continue to the last qualifying session.
Judging from the times the drivers secured, we must say that Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes are almost in the same level and only the ability and the talent of the drivers will make the difference. Sebastian Vettel, Felipe Massa and Hamilton have the advantage but Alonso and Rosberg seems that they will be very competitive very soon. Schumacher and Button will need a little more time to get used to their new cars while it seems that Renault and Force India will fight for the Fifth constructors place along side with Williams. Sauber and Toro Rosso are two clicks above the newcomers but they are not seemed able to challenge for something better than the eighth place of the constructors championship.
From the new teams, Virgin and Lotus are almost in the same level while HRT is way back and they need to cover a lot of distance to reach the other two new teams.
