Formula 1 – First and Second Free Practice sessions at Bahrain Grand Prix
Posted on March 12, 2010 by John Trevors for Luckyroom.com
Today’s free practice sessions just finished in the GULF AIR Bahrain Grand Prix and all the drivers experimented with their car behavior under different fuel loads as well as tyres degradation level. It is unlikely that the teams have made any serious setup regarding the wings level as this most probably will be left for tomorrows free practice session. Adrian Sutil of Force India topped the first session with 1:56.583 after he completed 18 laps. Fernando Alonso of Ferrari was second just 0.183 seconds slower followed by Renault’s Robert Kubica, Ferrari’s Massa and Mercedes Jenson Button.
Heikki Kovalainen completed the most laps (21) in his new Lotus Racing car followed by his teammate Nico Hulkenberg(20). Lucas di Grassi of Virgin and Bruno Senna of HRT completed just two and three laps respectively while Karun Chandhok was not able to get on track at all as HRT didn’t have his car ready. In the second free practice session, setup testing for the cars continued, but this time the fastest time was more than 1 second better than the morning time mainly because the track has had more rubber spread on it. Nico Rosberg toped the time table with 1.55.409 while Lewis Hamilton was second almost half a second slower. Michael Schumacher was third; six tens of a second behind Rosberg. Sebastian Vettel in the Red Bull, Hulkenberg in Renault and Felipe Massa in Ferrari were close to each other while Petrov, Alonso, De la Rosa, Kobayashi and Sutil were below 2 seconds margin from the leader.
Once again, Chandhok was not able to race while Buemi and Glock experienced problems and were not able to run more than three laps. Alguersuari in Toro Rosso manage to complete the most laps(31) followed by Felipe Massa(30). Not much to tell for those two first free practice sessions as the teams mostly tried to make final test about the integrity of the car instead of pushing it to achieve good lap times. Tomorrow’s free practice is expected to offer us a little more accurate information however, the mysteries will be solved in the Qualification session at 11:GMT on Saturday.
