Formula 1 News – No 13 team – 2011 Calendar

FIA (the governing body of Formula 1) decided that none of the applicants for the vacant spot of the 13th team fulfilled the requirements to be granted an entry into the 2011 and 2012 championships. Therefore, the spot will remain vacant for at last two years. Villeneuve Racing and Epsilon Euskadi were the two prime candidates but it seemed that after last year’s fiasco with USF1, FIA feared for a similar one and decided not to grand the additional entry.
FIA statement reads: “Following the press release of March 19, 2010 calling for expressions of interest to participate in the 2011 and 2012 seasons of the FIA Formula One World Championship, a number of interested parties expressed their interest. It was considered that none of the candidates met the requirements to be granted an entry into the championship. Consequently, the allocation of the 13th team will not be granted”. There is still no reaction from the representatives of Villeneuve Racing or Epsilon Euskadi regarding FIA’s decision.
In another matter, FIA decided that no further punishment will be applied to Ferrari after the team orders issue to the German Grand Prix where the team – indirectly – ordered Massa to allow Fernando Alonso to pass him. Team orders are forbidden to F1 but it seems that after this incident the rules will be revised. However, the initial $100,000 fine that was applied to the team by the German Grand Prix stewards’ remained but Ferrari will face no further penalty.
The same day, FIA also announced the 2011 calendar where for the first time there will be 20 races as the Indian grand prix event will be added.
