Google seeks ways to enter in the online social networking as they are focusing on offering free games as the giant search engine company was unsuccessful so far to establish a strong presence to the specific internet market. Although Facebook dominates the social networking market, many believe that Google has the potential to play an important role in attracting the interest of game development companies, offering an alternative option of what the average user enjoys currently. Google is seeking talents that will help the company to enter to the area of social networking mainly by joint-ventures with online game companies which are eager to exploit and benefit by the significant presence of Google on the Internet increasing their presence in the field of social gaming. Well known companies such as Electronic Arts and Walt Disney have paid hundreds of millions of dollars in order to successfully establish a strong presence to the specific market.
“It’s clear that many social gaming companies would like to have more than Facebook”, notes Timothy Chang, investor in Playdom, a company of social networking games. The free social games are one of the most popular activities on Facebook. Zynga Games like Zynga’s FarmVille invite users to communicate among themselves by purchasing a fantastic piece of virtual land which they can cultivate and expand to farms. The games generate revenue by selling virtual goods or services.
In the wake of recent changes to Facebook, making it more difficult for games companies to exploit the social network segment which adds up from an audience of more than 500 million people, Mr. Chang and other investors showed interest in initiatives such as Google’s which already has made efforts to establish a respectable presence in the online social networking games industry. The circumstances could not be more favorable as the relationship between game developers and Facebook is currently intense. Some analysts emphasize that the level of trust between Facebook and game developers have subsided, however Facebook is still the easiest and cheapest way to present a social networking game.
