After a week full of Super Bowl Action It’s time to welcome the 52nd Daytona 500 and the official opening to the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup season. Incredible action has been playing out during this week with the shootout last Saturday, the 150’s this past Thursday, the Nationwide Race and now the Sprint Cup Race. Reporters present are witnessing high levels of enthusiasm as drivers are showing a presence that reminds lions getting uncaged as the simplified NASCAR rules have put a high level of enthusiasm on all participating drivers this year.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup series begins today with a 43 car field at the legendary Daytona International Speedway for the 52nd time. The race has been taking place at the Daytona Beach circuit since 1959 and although nowadays the Formula 1 may have taken the glory off the NASCAR it still remains the top motorsport racing event across the US.
From year 2000, only one driver has had the honour of winning this event twice as Michael Waltrip did his miracle in 2001 & 2003 which means there’s a total of nine different winners in the last ten times the event has taken place making the NASCAR one of the most difficult events to make a prediction on.
Among the fully loaded NASCAR drivers, Jeff Gordon posses the most Daytona 500 wins with a record of 3 wins while completing 5709 of 5948 laps with an amazing 96.0% at a track known for bringing cars to pieces. Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch have the best records over the last 10 races as each driver has 7 top 10 ranking finishes over the last 5 years they have been participating. Kart Busch holds six top-5 finishes to Stewart’s five, but Stewart has 3 wins where Busch has absolutely none.
Daytona is simply Daytona and despite what Daytona Odd predictions might say our guess is that there is no guess. It is well mentioned that Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch seem to be presenting themselves fully loaded this year with Busch, being the second most consistent driver over the last five events with three top-fives. Its worth mentioning that Juan Pablo Montoya is of course a possible contender for the title as the Earnhardt-Ganassi team proved quite strong in the Chase last season, making Montoya a driver with high expectations and a regular race winner.
