Becoming the world’s largest online poker room does not happen by accident; and pokerstars.com has made its position in opposition to the UIGEA crystal clear in an interview representatives of the US facing poker room have had with Forbes. Even after a week of massive trouble regarding US facing poker rooms having trouble with credit card processing pokerstars.com maintains its position strong with a neutral attitude against the UIGEA stating that its legal advisors have made it clear that the business they run does not violate any law and especially the Wire Act of 1961.
PokerStars says it has received legal opinions from several U.S. law firms stating it is not violating U.S. law in any way. “PokerStars believes that the passage of UIGEA in 2006 did nothing to change the legality of real money online poker in the U.S.,” PokerStars says in a written statement. “It is PokerStars’ position that both the plain language and the legislative intent of the Wire Act strictly limit its application to sports wagering.
The extravagant growth rates pokerstars.com has experienced after stock listed companies including Party Gaming withdraw its business from the US has enabled pokerstars.com to strengthen its position in a manner at which today it is more or less untouchable from any authority or legislation by supporting its point of view of the UIGEA. The popular online poker room which hosts an average of 150,000 simultaneous online players at any given time has brought itself in a position where even when back in 2008 when US banks confiscated a total of 34 million dollars which were processed by credit cards issued by US banks the online poker room paid its players on its own expense to maintain its reputation.
