Premier League – Match Day #17 – Betting Picks
Posted on December 11, 2010 by John Trevors for Luckyroom.com
Three match days left before the completion of the first round and the match day # 17 finds Arsenal topping the Premier League standings with 32 points after 16 games. Manchester United follows with 31 points after 15 games ( their game against Blackpool canceled due to adverse weather conditions), Chelsea is third with 30 points and Manchester City is fourth with 29 points. Liverpool seems to recover despite the absence of Gerrard while Newcastle’s manager was fired following the bad results streak. Lower on the table, Everton and Fulham are the two main points of discussion while Wolves and West Ham secured important wins last week but they are still in the bottom.
Saturday 11th December:
Aston Villa Vs West Bromwich Albion, 15:00 Villa Park
Aston Villa performs way below par this year and another bad result against West Brom might seal the fate of O’Neill’s replacement (current manager is Gerard Houllier). On the other hand WBA enjoys mid table anonymity (mainly due to the two consecutive wins).
Prediction: Both teams score or concede a lot so the Over 2.5 goals will be our betting pick.
Everton Vs Wigan, 15:00 Goodison Park
Everton is another team that performs way below par this season and the administration has begun to lose patience with David Moyes although the away draw against Chelsea offered confidence to him and to the players. On the other hand, Wigan is on similar path like Everton with the advantage that their current position is not that stressful. After all on their last game they managed to draw at home against mid tabled Stoke.
Prediction: Everton to Win.
Fulham Vs Sunderland, 15:00 Craven Cottage
Fulham hosts Sunderland to an important game as on one hand the last year’s Europa League finalists disappointed so far their fans as instead of a safe mid table position they are battling to avoid relegation. On the other hand, Sunderland loses a significant portion of their strength when they play away from home that is why they are currently on the 7th spot.
Stoke City Vs Blackpool, 15:00 Britannia Stadium
This is another evenly sided game as Stoke and Blackpool are quite similar. Their campaigns are going good so far and are within their targets set. Stoke has a slight advantage due to the home ground but on the other hand Blackpool knows how to get the right results.
West Ham Vs Manchester City, 15:00 Boleyn Ground
West Ham secured an important win last week although this was not enough to lift the team from the bottom of the table. Now, they host the fourth best team so far and despite their willingness to win I do not think that have the potential. On the other hand, if the Citizens want not to lose the Champions League train then they must win on these kinds of games.
Prediction: Manchester City to Win.
Newcastle Vs Liverpool, 17:30 St. James’ Park
The absence of many key players for Newcastle will be a key factor for another game as they will battle against Liverpool which performs better each game. Unless Newcastle is lucky Liverpool will win this one.
Prediction: Liverpool to win.
Sunday 12th December
Bolton Vs Blackburn, 13:30 Reebok Stadium
Bolton has a great chance to advance further on Premiership standings although the game against Blackburn will not be an easy one as the visitors are also performing above expectations. Most likely we will watch a close game without many goals.
Prediction: Under 2.5 goals
Wolverhampton Wolves Vs Birmingham City, 13:30 Molineux
Another crucial game for the hosts which they will try to perform as last week and two secure the second home win. On the other hand, Birmingham has the potential to secure an away win and climb up higher in the standings.
Prediction: Birmingham to win.
Tottenham Vs Chelsea, 16:00 White Hart Lane
Tottenham faces Chelsea on a character test game as the winner will gain a significant psychological advantage for the remaining few games. The fact is that the draw doesn’t suit to anybody. On the other hand, Chelsea moves from one bad result to the other and this game will be an opportunity to erase the past bad streak.
Prediction: Over 2.5 goals
Monday 13th December
Manchester United Vs Arsenal, 20:00,Old Trafford
An extremely important game for both teams as the winner can gain a significant points advantage. This will be also a test game whether Arsenal can really aim for the title or they are currently on the first spot because the others cannot win.
Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals
