Players of the second largest online poker room (Full Tilt Poker) experienced a sudden blackout in when a server paralyzed the whole system this past Sunday during a rush hour for the poker room, while running the largest poker tournament conducted at Full Tilt Poker with a guaranteed prize of $750,000. Players trying to connect were receiving the message “Failed attempt to connect to server”. This unfortunate problem lasted for hours while all forums were on fire from messages related to the incident.
The response of Full Tilt came through the site of where the following message appeared informing players of what happened. “An unscheduled maintenance is in progress. We faced a serious problem in our network and we will be back in operation shortly. Two hours later the servers were still unable to return to function, so the company decided to cancel the tournament by sending an explanatory mail.
What happened is definitely something unusual for a poker room of the size of Full Tilt. When a site is going through a peak hour there are many things that can lead to a system blackout. On the other hand lately Full Tilt has encountered several crashes and causing some tables not being dealt cards for quite a long time.
