Will the French Gaming Legislation Backfire?
Posted on February 14, 2010 by John Trevors for Luckyroom.com
The French government has announced action against licensed European facing online gaming operators including Bwin, 888 and Sporting Bet in an attempt to monopolize online gaming operations for French citizens. The French Barriere casino group is attempting to influence the state to prosecute online gaming operations which in reality will be an impossible task if actions are not put forward to ban competitive online gaming operators through the local Internet providers. Although interest from European facing online gaming operators has been presented in regards to applying for a French gaming license; the high tax rates which have been proposed make it more or less disadvantageous for any online gaming operator to move administration under a French Wing.
The actions of Barriere are predicted to backfire against the French State which is most likely to come opposed with European Law which will have to advise the French State to work constructively with licensed European operators as a member of the E.U. which would most likely have a final resolution against any attempts to monopolize online gaming in France altogether.
