Many players have reacted against this year’s regulation on World Series of Poker regulation that a tournament event will stop only when 10 levels are completed. In event # 4 of the WSOP ($5000 No Limit Hold’em) the third day begun with 42 players. When the field dropped to 10 everybody was waiting for a player to eliminated so Day 3 will officially finish. However, the tournament director informed them that they need to play 10 levels or until there is a winner – whatever comes first.
Despite the fact that all the players wanted to stop for that day, Jack Effel (WSOP Tournament director) did not let them. The poker players rebelled because the organizers have shown that they do not want to satisfy their customers. In event #4, when the 10 levels were completed only 4 players remained. Allen Bari won the bracelet next day and the prize of $875,000.
Bari said: ” I think it’s stupid. If you have a chance to rest before a tournament and come back later, it completely changes things. We should have stopped at 9 players. The result depends on the type of tournament. The prize was close to $1 million and it was 2.30 in the morning. We had to stop. ”
Friend of Bari and a professional player for Pokerstars, Jason Mercier, made the following statements: ” The 10 level rule is stupid. When 9 players are left in a tournament should either stop the event or let them play until the end, even if they play up to 6 in the morning. I think we should let the poker players to decide. When the tournament director goes against the will of the players then surely customers will not be happy and perhaps give less tips. ”
The tournament director, Jack Effel, gave the following answer to Pokernews: ” Not that the players do not know what’s good for them, but just some times when there is left only left three players they think the tournament will finish very soon, but this is not true. In the event the $1,000 3 players returned. The first one walked out in the first 5 hands while the heads up contenders duel for about 5.30 hours. If they had played the previous day, this tournament would end at 9 am. The new regulation is for to better organize the tournament and to help all players be fresh. When you play for a lot of money there is no reason to play 19 hours in a final table. This is the reason why people do not work more than 8 hours, they can not function well beyond those hours. We want the players, our athletes to be active and healthy. We do not want our players to be on the verge of cardiac arrest and end up sick. “
