The WSOP has announced to be putting up one million dollars to award during the 2010 World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions, taking place during the 41st Annual WSOP at the Rio All-Suite Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Tournament of Champions will be a freeroll event where the players will be selected by voting which will be offered at the official WSOP.com page. In total, the visitors will vote for the player they would like to see on the table.
According to the rules of the event – which will start on June 27 – the three previous WSOP TOC winners gain automatic entry plus the reigning WSOP champion and the reigning WSOP Europe champion. Therefore, Annie Duke, Mike Matusow, Mike Sexton, Joe Cada, and Barry Shulman have already secured their seats. Now it is up to you to decide which 20 out of 521 possible players will participate on this freeroll poker tournament event. We should note that all the possible candidates are WSOP bracelet holders; the voting procedure will stop at June 15th.
As pre mentioned the tournament will begin on June 27th at the Rio casino and as soon as players are down to nine the tournament will have a 7 days break and will start again on Independence Day, Sunday July 4th. ESPN will offer a special 2-hours program in honor of the event which will be broadcast on August 3rd.
The TOC tends to be become a tradition during the WSOP events as it started in 2004 after Harrah’s took ownership of the World Series of Poker brand. Annie Duke was the first winner back in 2004, while Matusow was the 2005 winner. The Tournament of Champions this year offers its winner a grand prize of $500,000 while the runner-up receives a breath catching $250.000. The unlucky third players get $100,000 while all the rest – from fourth to ninth – receive $25,000 each.
If you would like to participate to a WSOP event online poker rooms run satellites constantly where the minimum buy-in is as low as $0 (freerolls). Last year’s WSOP events attracted over 60,000 participants from 115 different countries. All the WSOP events will take place to the Rio All-Suite Hitel and Casino at Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
